EU and Mexico conclude fifth round of trade negotiations with good progress made

The fifth round of negotiations with Mexico took place in Brussels at the end of September. Although originally scheduled for 25 to 29 September, several meetings occurred either side of those dates.

In total 21 negotiating groups met, including on trade in goods, services, technical barriers to trade and sustainable development.

There were substantive discussions in all areas and negotiation groups. The talks focused on the text proposals for the trade chapter as well as on the market access offers on goods, services and public procurement that were exchanged in July. Some groups advanced more than others but overall there was good progress.

As usual, a report on the results of each group will be published on the DG TRADE website in the coming days.

Work will continue to advance with contacts in the course of October. The sixth round will take place in Mexico City from 25 November to 1 December. The objective remains to conclude a highly ambitious agreement by the end of the year.
