Mayan Indians take control of Chixoy Dam

The dam was partly funded by the World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank. The World Bank investigated the attrocities commited by the Guatemalan troops, 300 mostly women and children were killed, and they continued to fund the project. The dam provides 60 percent of Guatemala’s electricity and the protestors are threatening to shut it down unless the government met with community leaders. The group that seized the dam is said to be unarmed.
