BD to sign FTA with Czech soon: Tofail
Bangladesh will sign Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Czech Republic soon as the government has decided to ink such an agreement to expand trade and commerce with the central European country, said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Monday.
During a meeting with the Ambassador of Czech Republic to New Delhi Miloslva Stasek at his secretariat office, Tofail Ahmed said Bangladesh’s export to Czech Republic has been increasing every year as Bangladesh exported goods worth US$74.23 million and US$112.10 million to this European country in 2012-13 and 2013-14 respectively against the imports of US$12.60 million and 12.80 million from them.
There is huge demand for readymade garments, leather and leather products, tobacco, ceramics, the commerce minister said, adding that if FTA is signed, exports from Bangladesh will increase further.
Additional secretary (export) of the commerce ministry Md Ruhul Amin Sarker and honorary consul of Czech Republic to Dhaka ASM Mohiuddin Noman were present at the meeting.
