PACER Plus trade deal suffers a blow after PNG objections

The historic PACER Plus trade deal for the Pacific has been thrown further into doubt, with Papua New Guinea saying it’s not ready to sign the agreement.
After more than six years of negotiations, the Pacer Plus deal is scheduled to be signed off in June.
But during talks in Brisbane, PNG’s Director General for Trade, Max Rai, has said his country isn’t satisfied with the terms of the deal as it stands, despite Australia offering concessions that allow thousands more Pacific Islanders to work on temporary visas.
Adam Wolfenden is from the Pacific Network on Globalisation, a group which has been critical of the deal, and he says Papua New Guinea’s objections to the deal make sense.
