Peru Prez Hawking FTA to US

Lima, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) An enthusiast of the US-sponsored Free Trade Agreement, Peruvian President Alan Garcia will promote the agreement on his October visit to the US.
On the 10th he will meet with US President George W. Bush who issued an invitation on the day of his ascension on July 28.
Ambassador Felipe Ortiz de Zevallos confirmed the visit adding that the talks also involve fighting drug trafficking.
At a meeting with Republican and Democrat economists Garcia will explain Peru and the free trade agreement that many social sectors reject.
But Peru wishes to implement the accord before December, deadline for the benefits of the Law of Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act.
The rush with which the outgoing Congress passed the FTA encountered broad rejection from popular sectors that consider it harmful for national agriculture and medical production.
