Annul FTA: Solidarity to Centre
Kozhikode, Aug 18 : The Solidarity Youth Movement in Kerala today urged the Cental Government to immediately abrogate the Free Trade Agreement signed with the 10-nation bloc ASEAN as it would adversely affect the country as a whole.
Addressing a press conference here its General Secretary M Sajid accused the Union Government of hurriedly signing the agreement without a debate in Parliament.
He said the proposal to set up a committee to study the issue was deplorable as the agreement had already been signed by the government with the nations.
To mount pressure on the government and to register its protest against the FTA, the organisation would convene a meet here on August 20.
Kerala Agriculture Minister Mullakkaran Ratnakakaran would inaugurate the meet to be presided by Solidarity State President P Mujeebrahman, he said.
Mr M B Rajesh, MP, M P Abdurehman Randathani, MLA, Kerala Congress leader and former Union Minister P C Thomas, INFAM national trustee M C George, among others, would attend the meet, he added.
