Georgia-South Korea hold second round of talks for economic partnership agreement

Georgian and South Korean officials held a second round of talks to negotiate an economic partnership agreement in Seoul between Wednesday and Friday, resulting in “positive” evaluations and deals on “key issues”, the Georgian Ministry of Economy said.

Genadi Arveladze, the Deputy Economy Minister of the country, expressed hope the upcoming round of negotiations in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi would be the final one, leading to the signing of the agreement.

South Korea is an important trade and economic partner for Georgia and deepening relations would make a positive impact on the economies of both countries. We think the agreement will not only encourage bilateral trade, but also promote cooperation in various sectors, including investments”, Arveladze said.

The Deputy Minister stated South Korea was a “priority market” for Georgia, with over 50 million consumers with “high purchasing power”. He highlighted the potential for increasing exports of Georgian wine, mineral and non-alcoholic beverages, agro-industrial and other industrial products to Korea. Additionally, Arveladze mentioned Korean interest in Georgia’s energy, transport, logistics, civil aviation and tourism sectors.

The first round took place in Georgia in February, with the Ministry calling its results “promising”, with “significant progress” made on “several important topics”.
