Iraq to sign trade agreement with EU, Foreign Minister says

Iraq Minister of Foreign Affairs Hoshyar Zebari gave a briefing at the Ministry headquarters on Oct. 11.
Zebari indicated that Iraq would shortly sign a trade agreement with the European Union (EU). The agreement would treat Iraq as a friendly country to the EU and give it priority in commercial exchanges, according to the Ministry.
On Oct. 8 Zebari met with Ilka Uusitalo, the European Commission’s Delegate to Iraq. At the meeting, Zebari emphasized the Iraqi government’s pursuit of an agreement on political dialogue between Iraq and the EU, as well as the free trade agreement between them and the United Nations International Compact for Economic Partnership with Iraq.
