Oman, US discuss trade cooperation

MUSCAT - Eng. Salim bin Said Al Ghattami, chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), yesterday met the US deputy assistant secretary of trade for international trade affairs, and her accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, available trade opportunities between Omani and US companies, in accordance with the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed between the Sultanate and the US were discussed.

Al Ghattami stressed the keenness of the Omani companies to set up economic partnership with their counterparts in the US in the fields of tourism, services and oil and gas based heavy industries.

Al Ghattami stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between institutions concerned at the two countries to promote trade opportunities, activation of businessmen and investors’ participation in economic functions, such as, exhibitions and conferences, familiarising them with investment opportunities available in both the countries.

Al Ghattami called upon investors and businessmen of the US to capitalise on the investment incentives and facilities provided by the Sultanate’s government to foreign investors, adding to that the Sultanate’s strategic location.

From her part, the American trade official highlighted the huge opportunities the FTA provides.

At the same time, she stressed the keenness of the US side to develop aspects of economic cooperation with the Omani counterparts.
