PERU TO NEGOTIATE FTA WITH CENTRAL AMERICA IN MAY

LIMA, Dec 28 (NNN-ANDINA) – Peru will begin negotiations to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Central America in May next year, Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) said.

"In May, we will begin FTA negotiations with Central America and I believe it could be done relatively fast," Peru’s Minister for Foreign Trade Martin Perez said after meeting with Peru’s President Alan Garcia at the Government Palace.

He pointed out that negotiations with Central American countries will similair to those with the EU (European Union) countries – talking to each country in every round.

Next year, Peru expects to make progress in the extension of the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ACE) signed between Peru, Mexico and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).

"The FTA will assist Peruvian small and medium enterprises," he added.
