Algeria seeks free trade deal with West African countries

Algeria is working on signing free trade agreements with the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) countries, the union said in a statement made available to PANA here Monday.

The North African nation is holding talks with Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo in an effort to seal the deals.

It also holding similar talks with four countries in the European Free Trade Ass ociation (EFTA), the statement said, listing the countries as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.

A deal already exists between Algeria and UEMOA to foster the entry in the Algerian market of West African farm and fishing products.
