Korea, India Aim to Conclude Trade Deal by Year’s End

South Korea and India will resume trade talks next week in Seoul to sign an economic cooperation agreement.

The two countries are hoping to sign the proposed Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement before the end of this year.

Trade Minister Ahn Ho-young said the two sides have virtually concluded the wording of the agreement, but are still negotiating proposals on place-of-origin rules, commodities, services and investments.

The two countries will upgrade their chief negotiators to vice ministerial-level officials to get the deal done by year’s end.

Ahn noted the talks have been stalled as India is concerned about the possibility that goods from a third country could enter its market via Korea.
