EU compensation fund looks to bribe European farmers to sign the EU-Mercosur agreement

The EU wants to set up a fund to compensate European farmers for the damage caused by the EU-Mercosur agreement, however this damage should never be allowed to happen in the first place!

The easiest way to do that is not to sign the agreement. With this fund, the EU is trying to buy social peace.

Following the Commission’s announcement, France has withdrawn its opposition and cleared the way for the agreement to be signed.

However, anger has been simmering in France and other European countries for months now, because the main demands of the protests at the start of the year have not been met, including the right to a fair income and an end to free trade agreements.

The vast majority of European farmers are opposed to competition between farmers throughout the world, which is harmful to farmers’ incomes, the environment and, more broadly, the rural populations of the signatory countries.

If the EU insists on signing this agreement, European farmers will be left no option but to take to the streets once more to show their frustrations and discontent.

The path away from free trade agreements has been outlined this month by the CJEU ruling that states that the EU-Morocco FTA is illegal and has caused considerable economic, democratic, social and environmental damage to the people of Western Sahara. This must be used as a way forwards to change our trade paradigm for good.
