Labor Affairs chief to rally US FTA support
14 April 2007
Council of Labor Affairs Chairman Lee Ying-yuan has left for the United States to clear up misunderstanding over Taiwan’s labor policy.
The trip is part of the government’s plan to win US support for the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United States and Taiwan. It is believed that Washington has been reluctant to do so partly due to its concerns over the welfare of laborers in Taiwan.
During his four-day trip, Lee is expected to meet with Bush Administration officials and is scheduled to give a speech on how to raise the standards of Asian workers.
