EPA mobilisation in West Africa

En marge de la réunion de la CEDEAO qui se tient actuellement à
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, le Réseau des Organisations Paysannes et des
Producteurs Agricoles de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (ROPPA), la Confédération
Paysanne du Faso, en collaboration avec des organisations de la société
civile du Burkina Faso (Association Pour le Développement de la Jeunesse en
Afrique (ADJA), La ligue des consommateurs du Burkina...) organisent du 30 mai
au 04 juin 2007 des activités visant à informer l’opinion publique et
interpeller les autorités nationales et régionales (UEMOA,
CEDEAO) sur leurs interrogations et inquiétudes concernant le processus
d’intégration régionale, les politiques agricoles et commerciales régionales
et les négociations des APE avec l’UE. Des leaders paysans et
d’organisations de la société civile du Bénin, de la Côte d’Ivoire, du
Mali, du Niger et du Sénégal, participent à ces activités. Dans ce cadre,
une marche des producteurs a été organisée ce jour 1er juin sur
12 Km. Elle a mobilisé environ 2000 paysans et acteurs de la société civile.
A l’issue de la marche, le président du Comité Exécutif du ROPPA, monsieur
N’Diogou FALL, a remis au Secrétaire Général du Ministère de l’Agriculture,
de l’Hydraulique et des Ressources Halieutiques, représentant le ministre,
un mémorandum de la CPF, du ROPPA et des organisations de la société civile
du Burkina, pour transmission aux autorités régionales, notamment à son
Excellence, Monsieur Blaise COMPAORE, Président du Faso, Président en
exercice de la CEDEAO. Ci-joint le mémorandum de la CPF, du ROPPA et des

In parallel to the meeting of ECOWAS taking place in Ouagadougou, Burkina
Faso, the Network of Peasant and Agricultural Producers’ Organizations of
West Africa (ROPPA)and the Peasant Confederation of Faso (CPF), in
collaboration with civil society organizations of Burkina Faso (Association
for the Development of Youth in Africa (ADJA), Consumers League of
Burkina...) organized from 30 May to 4 June a series of activities aimed at
informing public opinion and briningto the attention of the national and
regional authorities (UEMOA, ECOWAS) their questions and preoccupations
concerning the process of regional integration, regional agricultural and
trade policies, and the negotiations of the EPA with the EU. Peasant leaders
and civil society organizations from Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger and
Senegal took part in this activities. In this context a 12 km. march was
organized on 1 June which mobilized about 2000 farmers and civil society
actors. At the end of the march the President of the Executive Committee of
ROPPA, Ndiogou Fall, presented to the Secretary General of the Ministry of
Agriculture, representing the Minister, a memorandum underwritten by the
CPF, ROPPA and the civil society organizations of Burkina Faso for
transmission to the regional authorities, in particular His Excellency
Blaise Compaore, President of Burkina Faso and rotating President of ECOWAS.
